Yankee was donated to MVKC by a gentleman that used him for roping.  He decided to retire him out before he got to old or hurt.  Yankee has taught a lot of students how to ride.  This horse has so much heart and so full of try.  Yankee has participated in parades, camp, laser tag, long trail rides, roping, gymkhana’s and is part of our MVKC drill team.  Watch him smile as he goes by with his new owner Sheri Griffin.  I don’t know whose smile is BIGGER!!  They have done a fantastic job together.  She has buckled on him twice since he arrived.  Congratulations Sheri and Yankee, on your new beginning together.

Mystery Mare is one of our rescue horses that we are fostering.  She was rescued from the slaughter house.  This horse has such a huge heart, and really enjoys her second chance at life.  When this mare arrived she was very underweight and needed a lot of TLC.  Luckily for her she came to the right place.  M&M has quickly become on of the camper’s favorites.  She is an excellent kid’s horse. She has participated in several of our camps, gymkhana events, cattle drives, soccer, trail rides and flag ceremony.  This sweet horse is willing to do anything we ask her to do.  We have even used her for lessons on her off weeks of camp.

Age                             12-14

Breed                         Arabian

Color                          Bay

Background

Fuzzy is another one of our rescue horses.  This mare has a lot of personality.  She will make a great family horse.  I have given lessons on this mare, she is easy to ride and full of life.  We have used her for a couple of camps this year.  Fuzzy needs to be kept in a smaller pen at first.  She can sometimes be hard to catch until she learns to trust you.  This is common for horses that have been rescued, considering where they came from.  Fuzzy has been started on the gymkhana patterns and is a quick learner.  She has participated in camp, cattle drives and soccer.

Pecos Bill has been at M.V.K.C. horse for the past 2 years.  He enjoys coming out and helping kids learn to ride so his Mom, Mary Pittman, sends him to camp every summer.  Bill is a fun horse to ride with tons of personality and has a long history of accomplishments.

His other Dad, Mike Spradley, used him for roping, cattle work, hunting and trail riding.  He even carried a flag on him at the State roping finals…Bill is a good horse because of his teamwork with Mike.  Since retiring from roping Bill has been competing in Gymkhanas, Cattle Drives,

Camp, Trail Rides, Laser Tag, Parades, Flag Drills and Soccer.  He is a camp favorite with a long waiting list of riders.

Breed                         Quarter horse

Color                          Sorrel

Background

Lucky is a rescue horse with a lot of heart.  You can see how much he appreciates being saved from the slaughter house. This little horse came in very thin.  We have put him on a strict feeding program and he has come along way in a short period of time.  I think he will be an easy keeper once he gets to his ideal weight.  Lucky has fit right into our program.  He has carried small children on his back, and will either baby-sit or be ready to compete, whatever you need from him.  He will make an excellent kids horse.   He has more than proved himself here.  Lucky has participated in our camp program, cattle drives, carries a flag, plays soccer and started on the gymkhana patterns.

Spirit has recently found his way back to the ranch.  This is a flashy gelding that I sold to a five year old cowgirl that was taking lessons with me about five years ago.  This gal is now running barrels on a new horse and has asked me to find a new home for Spirit.  This pony is an excellent gymkhana horse.  He has taken his previous ridden to the winner’s circle many of times. Spirit is an easy keeper, he is barefoot and ready to be used.  I will have a mentor school him through our last camp and get him ready for the start of our fall gymkhana series.

Jack is one of those horses you can always depend on to do his job.  He is very smooth to ride, so almost all of our students take their first ride on him.  He has an excellent disposition and takes his job very seriously.  If you need him to baby sit, he’ll do it.  If you’re ready to compete, he’s there full of heart and ready to take you to the winner’s circle.  Our students have used Jack for Camp, Gymkhanas, Parades, Cattle Drives, Soccer and Laser Tag. His favorite buddy is Chocolate, one of our rescue horses. You can always find him by her side on his days off.

Horses Name          Chocolate

Age                             20 something

Breed             `           Quarter Horse

Color                          Chestnut

Background

This mare was abounded after getting some age on her, which is such a shame.  She had been to the snaffle bit futurity as a two or three year old and had earned quite a bit of money in her younger years as a cutter and working cow horse. Chocolate was purchased by a gentle man that rescued her.   He brought her to MVKC knowing we had a lot of children that were coming through for riding lessons.  She was the perfect horse, but needed a lot of TLC (tender loving care).  Chocolate was malnourished, and near death, but you could see the love in her eyes. After being wormed, having her teeth floated, feet trimmed, and a special diet formulated especially for her nutritional needs she became a completely different horse.  You can feel the love and gratefulness from her for saving her life.  Sometimes she will just lean in on you with her head, almost as if she was trying to give you a hug and to say Thanks.  Chocolate has carried many of our students to the winners circle.  Chocolate has participated in our cattle drives, gymkhanas, parades, camp, laser tag and long trail rides.

Horses Name          Utah

Age                             25 years old

Breed                         Thoroughbred

Color                          Chestnut

Background

Utah was donated to M.V.K.C. by Linda & Victoria Pittman.  She wanted him to go to a home where he would be loved and enjoyed by kids.  Utah is an off the track race horse, roping horse and barrel racing horse.  He is a very loveable guy with the biggest heart.

At first the kids are a little intimidated by how tall he is but this gentle giant soon puts them at ease with his kind eyes and big heart.  The kids say when they ride him it is like floating on clouds.

When you come out to the Ranch make sure you stop by and scratch him between his ears that’s his favorite spot.

Horses Name          Valentine

Age                             15

Breed                         Quarter Horse

Color                          Buckskin

Background

Valentine is a rescue horse.  This beautiful buckskin mare maybe in foal.  Her buddy horse is the Mystery Mare.  This mare is a kid friendly horse, but needs to keep her distance from other horses while riding her.  I think this is because she may be pregnant.  We have not confirmed it with a vet yet, but it does appear that she is showing.  We have used Valentine for camps, gymkhanas, cattle drives and lessons.  Valentine would be great as a buddy horse or for a small child.  She has come up sore on an occasion on her left front hoof, so we put a special set of shoes on her.  This seems to have helped but this will need to be continued when she is adopted.

I just love this little horse he has so much personality.  Vanilla was rescued from the slaughter house.  He is very grateful for his second chance at life.  .  Vanilla is a very easy keeper and is kept barefoot. On his first day at the ranch he was playing soccer.  This horse is so willing to do anything you ask of him.  He really enjoys his job.  He is still a little green in areas and needs some miles put on him.  Vanilla has been started on the gymkhana patterns and will be an excellent competitor.  If you are looking for a horse that will grow with you he is the one. Not only is he cute and playful, but very willing to learn.

Horses Name          Serendipity a.k.a. Sarah

Age                             28 years young

Breed                         Arabian

Color                          Brown

Background

Sarah is part of Pecos Bills herd and joins him at camp every year helping kids learn to ride.  When Sarah first came to her new family, Mary, Victoria,  and Robert Pittman, she was very neglected and near death.  Her head was bigger than her entire body, her legs were like toothpicks and she had serious skin infections.  She had been starved and left for dead.  But do not underestimate the fight for life this little girl has.

After months of vet care getting her teeth floated and packed, getting her feet taken care off, doctoring her skin infections (thanks to Victoria mostly), lots of groceries (alfalfa, grains, minerals, vitamins, treats), and lots and lots of love she became very healthy.

Victoria and Robert renamed her Serendipity when she became part of their family because she was meant to be with them for the rest of her life.  They enjoy sharing her with campers because it is something Sarah enjoys doing… it keeps her young…..Sarah takes part in the Gymkhanas, Camp, Cattle Drives and Soccer.

So when you are visiting the Ranch come by and rub her head she just loves that to death….Be careful she will use you as an itchin’ post.

Color              Palomino

Background

Pirate is a new comer to the ranch.  He quickly became a camp favorite with many requests to ride him.  Pirate is a rescue horse; he was saved from the slaughter house in July.  His owner had taken him there because he had his right eye removed.  I personally don’t think he even knows it is gone.  The surgery was recent and it has not affected him at all.  He is an excellent horse.  I have used him for camp and lessons, and he is willing to do anything we ask of him.  He will make a fantastic family horse.  I would trust this horse with anyone.  He has more than proven himself to us.  Pirate has carried a flag, participated in soccer, our cattle drive and gymkhana patterns.
